These tactile activities are all about transformation! Children will touch and explore different materials to create fabric projects. Fiber Frenzy provides opportunities for children to learn techniques in felting, sewing, cord knitting, and weaving. These skills transfer into creative woven blanket designs, friendship bracelets and other handmade jewelry, images out of colored fiber, yarn flowers, and more! Children will think outside of the box and create both abstract and organized pieces that speak to their creativity and new skillset. Developmental Activation: fine motor skills, sensory input, imagination Each FIBER FRENZY activity will include elements of the following: Introduction to Textile Arts Discuss the importance of textile arts in history and culture Explore different fabrics and materials used in textile arts Introduce basic tools and techniques, such as sewing and weaving Fabric printing Introduce children to printing techniques, such as block printing and screen printing Have children create their own designs and print them on fabric Sewing basics Teach children how to thread a needle and tie a knot Introduce basic stitches, such as the running stitch and the backstitch Have children practice sewing on paper before moving on to fabric Simple sewing projects Have children create simple sewing projects, such as a felt bag or a fabric bookmark Encourage creativity and experimentation with different fabrics and colors Weaving Have children create their own woven projects, such as a small tapestry or a woven bracelet Textile Arts in everyday life Discuss the ways in which textile arts are used in everyday life, such as in clothing and home decor Encourage children to think about how they can incorporate textile arts into their own lives.
